History
In 1980, a small group of enthusiastic hockey parents from the Richmond area got together to discuss the feasibility of establishing "AA" hockey teams that would represent District 4 in the Ottawa District Minor Hockey League (ODMHL).
After a lot long hours and countless meetings, a proposal was sent to District 4 Council who ultimately presented it to the ODMHA Minor Council, and the result was the birth of the Ottawa Valley Titans. The Ottawa Valley Titans began its first season of play in 1981-82 with 4 participating teams: Major Peewee, Minor Bantam, Major Bantam and Midget. Players were recruited from Almonte/Pakenham, Osgoode/Rideau, Metcalfe & District, West Carleton, Stittsville, Carleton Place, Richmond & District, Russell, Perth, and Lanark Minor Hockey Associations. There were plenty of challenges in the inaugural season but the future looked bright for this fledgling organization. In 1982, Kanata Minor Hockey joined District 4, adding strength and talent to our teams. In the mid 1980's, the ODMHA developed the "Magenta" region that gave us the opportunity to draw not only from District 4, but also Districts 1 and 5. This change made the Titans formidable opponents in the ODMHL.

After participating in and studying the Ottawa Valley Titans program for three years, District 1 decided to take the plunge, and the result was the "Rideau St. Lawrence Kings." adding a new dimension and challenge to the Titans, along with the addition of the "AA" organization to the ODMHL.
The Titans pride themselves on being a consistent and competitive organization yearly during its 40 year history. The Titans organization have a long history of developing high level talent including 15 of its graduates playing in the National Hockey League. Since 1995 there has been at least one Titans alumnus playing in the NHL each season. In 2021 Mason McTavish became the highest player ever selected in the NHL Entry Draft as McTavish was chosen third overall by the Anaheim Ducks. The Ottawa Valley Titans are an extremely proud organization not for its on ice success but the way it has helped to develop the young men and women who have graduated from the program off the ice. We are proud to continue this tradition as we help the next generation of hockey players in Titans Country. |
